The mission of Opening Door Dance Theatre (ODDT) is to open the world of contemporary dance to the Texas State University, San Marcos, and surrounding areas. ODDT has commissioned nationally recognized composers, artists, and designers, some of whom hail from San Marcos, to collaborate with their choreographers. The work of dance pioneer; Erick Hawkins has been presented in conjunction with members of the Texas State and Austin Symphony orchestras under the direction of conductor, Howard Hudiburg.

Opening Door Dance Theatre (ODDT) was founded in 1984 by Karen Earl, Sandy Rodriguez, and LeAnne Smith in response to the needs of advanced students. Opening Door Dance Theatre has brought a wide array of internationally and nationally respected choreographers and performers to the theatre. The company continues to strive to present dance that is accessible to diverse audiences in the San Marcos and surrounding areas. We are all human movers and this movement that connects us is the very art of dance and of life itself.
